April, Saint Quay Portrieux, Bretagne. La Fête de la Coquille Saint Jacques allows you to take fishing trips or just feast on a scallop dish. Saint-Quay-Portrieux is an attractive resort on the Cote d'Emeraude (Emerald coast).
May – Binic. In there are various festivals celebrating the sea. Binic is a beautiful fishing port on the rugged Brittany coastline, where cod plays a major part in the local economy and is celebrated annually. The annual Fête de la Morue is not to be missed. All fishing vessels are scrubbed down and adorned with the brightest of sails and the local fishermen will serenade you with traditional sea shanties, getting you in the maritime mood while delicious cod dishes are cooked at the harbour side.
May – Tréguier. Every year. Le Pardon de Saint Yves. The small town of Tréguier plays host to this annual street event, celebrating Saint Yves, the patron saint of lawyers.
July – Dinan. Every year. Festival des Remparts. Since 1983, the Medieval Association of Dinan in Brittany has turned the ramparts of the town's city walls into a summer celebration of all things medieval. Jousting, knights in combat, tournaments, music, dance and medieval-style spectacles attract thousands to the city.
July – Locronan. Every year. Petite Troménie. The Petite Troménie in Locronan is one of the oldest pardons (religious days) in Brittany. Pilgrims in costume, carrying gold brocaded, silk banners and singing Breton songs, begin a procession from Locronan church, marching through the Locronanaise countryside to a sacred forest clearing, Le Nemeton.
July – Quimper. Every year. Festival de Cornouaille. The Festival de Cornouaille is Brittany's biggest celebration of Breton culture. Concerts, street parades by proud Breton in their 66 distinct "guises" (costumes) and street musicians bring the perfectly-preserved medieval town of Quimper to life every July.
August – Lorient. Every year. Interceltic Festival. The town of Lorient in Brittany hosts this spectacular annual showcase of the Celtic arts, featuring performers from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Asturias, Galicia, Isle of Man and Brittany. www.festival-interceltique.com
August – Roscoff. Every year. Roscoff en Fête. The mid-August Bank Holiday brings a craft market and assorted excitements to the streets of the port town of Roscoff.
August – Saint-Malo. Every year. La Route du Rock Festival. Fast becoming a highlight of the French festival scene, and blessed with a great venue within the crumbling ramparts of an old castle in Saint-Malo, over the last few years La Route du Rock Festival has blossomed into a major musical event. www.laroutedurock.com
