Generally the season starts earliest at Val Thornes, Tignes and Val D'Isere. Tignes opens on the 1st October 2011, Les Deux alpes opens in the last week of October for a week, and then from the 3rd December (2011), Val Thorens opens 19th November in 2011, and Val D'Isere on the 26th November.

There are also a few opportunities to test skis and snowboards from mid November each year.

Rail Europe / Eurostar – there is a weekly direct train service to Aimé la Plagne, Bourg-St-Maurice and Moutiers during the ski season.

Important dates to watch out for this ski season (week beginning)

Christmas week 2011 – Saturday 24th and Saturday 31st December.

New Year week 2012; Starts Saturday 31st December 2011.

February Half term (UK) 2012; Most from Saturday 11th February 2012.

Easter Holidays; From Saturday 31st March to 15th April 2012.

Good Friday / Easter Monday week 2012; Saturday 7th April and 14th April (Good Friday April 6th).

Cheap weeks

Before 17th December 2011, after January 7th, after Easter and Half Term 18th April on (the final week for most operators – some low prices can be expected).
