At Coquelles in Calais is Cité Europe, a huge shopping centre with about 200 shops. The large French supermarket chain Carrefour has a hypermarket here. Other shops popular with British shoppers include Toys 'R' us. Nearby is the Centre L'Usine shopping centre (formerly Marques Avenue).
New in 2010 – Cite Europe often have "Ventes flash", short notice sales with many shops participating and offering extra discounts outside the normal sales periods. Check the web site for latest information before you go, and make sure you save even more money.

Restaurants and Bars; 7 days, 10.00am – 12.00 midnight.
Hypermarket; Monday to Wednesday, 8.30am – 9.00pm. Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8.30am – 10.00pm. Sunday – closed.
The information desk is open from 10.00am till 9.45pm.
Foot passenger? Take bus line number 5 from the Central Railway station.

CREDIT CARDS – we suggest you ring your credit card company before shopping in France – increased fraud means they are turning down shoppers cards if their spending deviates from the norm. Take your mobile – you can often sort the problem out over the phone.

A large modern shopping mall, Cité Europe attracts a large number of British visitors. Conveniently situated close by the Eurotunnel exit, there is a large Carrefour Hypermarket here. With many other fashionable shops and restaurants, it is a convenient place to shop.

There is an information desk in the central mall where you can get advice.
– Facilities for the disabledThere is available for free, an electric wheelchair for disabled people. There is also a lift next to Flunch. Disabled parking is available at Porte de Belgique, Porte de Hollande and Porte d'Allemagne.
If you want to use the disabled parking area, just show your special sign / pass (on your car or pass) to the video-camera and the security will open the gate.
Press the bell push mounted on a post with an outdoor microphone system. When they respond, gives the serial number on the orange/blue badge. They then raise the barrier to the car parking area for disabled users. The exit barrier raises automatically on the approach of a vehicle. One slight snag with the entry arrangement – it is mounted, of course, for left-hand drive vehicles!

Don't forget the three hotels close to Cite Europe, Hotel IBIS, Suite Novotel hotel and ETAP (Budget). When booking a hotel through the Accor hotels web site, look for the "promotion rate". Although these offers are restrictive (cancel, and there is no refund), the prices are often very keen. We enjoy our stays at the Suite Novotel hotel, which has large rooms and a better quality of furnishing than most IBIS hotels for example. When travelling Hotel IBIS are a good bet, as there is a 24 hour concierge.
