GeneralThe most modern of the hypermarkets in Calais. Busy, the hypermarket store conveniently situated in Calais biggest shopping mall, Cité Europe. The petrol station is on the ground floor in the shopping centre car park. There are two branches in Calais - the old Continent Supermarket at Centre Mi-voix is now part of the Carrefour group, and consistently offers a better exchange rate if you want to pay in Sterling (its also quieter and there is a TABAC). Carrefour is one of the largest supermarket chains in France. Brands coming under this group include; Carrefour, Champion, Pryca, Marché Plus, Ed, Optique, Comod, Shopi. Smaller shops selling Carrefour products include Champion, Carrefour Market, Carrefour City and Carrefour Convenience stores.  - May 2009 - a new range of discounted products appears on Carrefour supermarkets shelves. Called Carrefour Discount, the blurb says "a tailor-made product line covering core consumer needs. In today's tough economic environment, Carrefour wants to provide consumers with a tailor-made solution for keeping a grip on spending on everyday needs while offering the support of a national brand. With its hard discount pricing policy, Carrefour Discount consists of 400 reference items ranging from food to household goods and personal care products, covering the essential needs of everyday life." Interestingly 83% are food products.
Lines available at Carrefour, what to look out for. Carrefour has a range of own brand products aimed at different levels of the market. The new discount range is called Carrefour discount (see above). The Carrefour Agir line offers customers the possibility of making purchases that also promote sustainable development (fairtrade and organic basically). There are four themes; 1) Carrefour Agir Bio: organic food products. 2) Carrefour Agir Eco Planete: environmentally-friendly products that help preserve the planet. 3) Carrefour Agir Solidaire: fair trade products. 4)ï Carrefour Agir Nutrition: health foods. The premium range at Carrefour is called "Selection". This brand aims to "offer gourmet and gourmand consumers the possibility of treating themselves to a unique moment of pleasure, the Carrefour Selection line offers over 150 high quality food products that combine refinement, original recipes and affordable prices". The top range line is called "Reflets de France." In my opinion these products are worth looking out for. There are also a range of core products (own brand). Always spend some time looking at the publicity on the shelves and hanging from the ceiling. This when to find out about special offers and discounts, some only applying that day. For example;  - Ticket Cash; Buy certain items and get a ticket to spend on your next visit.
